Bring Nexo AI and your VS Code workflow into Oracle APEX

Keep your application open in Chrome while you write better SQL, edit code in VS Code or ask Nexo AI Sidebar to change a page. The Nexo SQL Studio Chrome extension connects APEX Code Editors, Page Designer and running applications to the same workspace, so the code and the result stay close together.

Requires Nexo SQL Studio Pro and the application's local VS Code workspace. Nexo AI and APEXlang require APEX 26.1 or later. Autocomplete, formatting and external code editing also support earlier APEX versions. · Oracle-specific

From a single query to an entire APEX application

Edit code externally

Open an APEX Code Editor's text in VS Code, work with your normal editing tools and return the changes to the browser editor.

Autocomplete and format in APEX

Use schema-aware SQL and PL/SQL suggestions, parameter signatures and the Format action inside APEX Code Editors.

Open the page's APEXlang source

Jump from Page Designer or the runtime developer toolbar to the current page's exported APEXlang files in VS Code.

Ask, apply and see the result

Nexo AI Sidebar can edit APEXlang sources and apply authorized changes. With Live reload enabled, a successful apply refreshes the running development page.

A shorter path from an idea to a working APEX application

Take a complex edit into VS Code

A small SQL expression is comfortable to edit in Builder. A longer report query or PL/SQL block often benefits from the space and tools of your normal editor. Edit externally opens the current APEX editor text in VS Code so you can navigate, search and reshape it without moving code through the clipboard.

The edited text returns to the APEX editor. When you are working in a Page Designer dialog, accept the dialog and save the page in Builder to persist it. This makes external editing useful for focused changes while keeping the familiar APEX save workflow.

Write SQL with the database in context

Stay in the APEX Code Editor when you only need to finish a query or call a package. Nexo supplies SQL and PL/SQL completions using the application's Oracle connection and parsing schema, including suggestions and parameter signatures that help you use the objects available to that application.

Use Format in the editor toolbar to make a dense query or PL/SQL block easier to read. Completion helps while you write; formatting helps when you review an existing query or prepare code for the next developer.

Treat a page as source with APEXlang

Once the application has been exported as APEXlang in your Nexo workspace, Edit APEXlang opens the current page's source from Page Designer or the runtime developer toolbar. Regions, items and other page components become files you can inspect, edit and track with Git alongside the rest of the application.

In a development environment, enable Live reload to shorten the feedback loop. Save an APEXlang file in VS Code; Nexo validates and applies the source, then reloads the linked running page after the apply succeeds. You can check the effect of each change while the sidebar stays open.

Describe the change in Nexo AI Sidebar

Open Nexo AI from the APEX toolbar and explain what should change. The sidebar can use the current application, page, selected component and editor code as context. You can ask it to explain a query, fix a PL/SQL block or edit the APEXlang source of the page you are looking at.

For changes across an entire application, the assistant can edit the relevant APEXlang source files, including multiple pages and components, and apply them through Nexo's authorized workflow. With Live reload enabled, successful changes appear in the running application automatically, without a separate copy, import and refresh cycle. Validation or apply errors stay available for correction; an unsuccessful apply does not trigger a reload.

On this page, add a status filter to the orders report, update its query and apply the APEXlang changes so I can see the result.

Use the same workspace for manual and AI changes

You can start with autocomplete in Builder, move a larger edit to VS Code, and ask Nexo AI to finish a page change. All three approaches connect to the application's local workspace. Keep that workspace open in VS Code and enable the extension on the APEX site you want to use.

Live reload is a development workflow for APEXlang exports. Pending source changes or unsaved changes in a linked Page Designer session can pause or reject an apply. Resolve them before continuing so you see the result of the source revision you intended to apply.

Connect once, then develop from the page

The Chrome extension works with Nexo SQL Studio in VS Code on the same computer. Prepare the application's workspace before starting the browser workflow.

01
Prepare Nexo and Chrome

Open the application workspace in VS Code with Nexo Pro. Run APEX: Set up Nexo AI for APEX in Chrome, then load the prepared extension using Chrome's Developer mode and Load unpacked.

02
Connect your APEX site

Choose Enable on this site in the extension. Open Nexo AI from an APEX toolbar. Configure your AI provider for chat and export the application as APEXlang for source editing.

03
Edit and see the changes

Use autocomplete, Format or Edit externally for code. For page changes, open Edit APEXlang or ask the sidebar; enable Live reload in development to refresh after successful applies.
